The Lighthouse is a fragment of a story that Poe left unfinished when he died – even the title was only something added by the publisher when the piece was eventually printed in 1909. Lighthouse Keeper is based on the least known of all Poe’s stories. There were assorted adaptations throughout the 1980s and 90s but interest in Poe appears to have dropped off in the 2000s with adaptations being thin on the ground – apart from Ligeia (2009), the animated Poe anthology Extraordinary Tales (2015) and a handful of softcore gay adaptations from David De Coteau with The Raven (2007), House of Usher (2008) and The Pit & the Pendulum (2009) – although there was The Raven (2012), a murder mystery set during the last weeks of Poe’s life. Poe reached a popularity during the 1960s with the string of adaptations from Roger Corman beginning with The House of Usher (1960), which was followed by a host of other filmmakers climbing aboard the trend with other adaptations or spuriously Poe-connected titles. It remains to be seen whether The Lighthouse Keeper will be as phenomenal of an adaptation as The Raven as portrayed by The Simpsons.Edgar Allan Poe (1809-49) has a long history on film going back to the early silent era – the first adaptation appeared in 1909 and the IMDB lists over 340 others since then. Titles are available at most major video outlets such as Walmart, Fry’s, Amazon, NetFlix, iTunes, Vudu and Youtube. As this horror tale races towards a mind bending finale, the man must confront the grotesque denizens of the night, or heed the lighthouse keeper’s cryptic warning to “Always keep a light burning!” But the man is haunted by fleeting glimpses of a beautiful young woman, and plagued by visions of hideous phantoms reaching out from the depths. ![]() Walsh insists they are the sole inhabitants of the peninsula. ![]() The man seeks the help of Walsh, the enigmatic lighthouse keeper. Although Poe hadn’t gotten very far into the story when he suddenly passed away, the tale was rather interesting, and over a century and a half later, it’s being adapted into a feature film.īelow is the press release, courtesy of Horror-Movies.ca:įor the first time, Edgar Allan Poe’s final, unfinished short story known as “The Light-House” is being adapted as a feature film. A fifth location opened in Lee's Summit, Missouri early spring 2015. In October 2006, they opened a fourth restaurant on The Country Club Plaza. They also opened a full-service catering operation in Martin City, along with private dining facilities in both Martin City and in their third restaurant location in the historic Freight House building across from Union Station in mid-town Kansas City. They decided to change their name to Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue to set themselves apart from the family chain of Smoke Stack Barbecue restaurants. In the mid-1990s, Jack and Delores opened their second restaurant location by expanding into neighboring Overland Park, Kansas. The restaurant briefly changed its name to Hatfield and McCoy's in the mid-1980s. One of these, Smoke Stack Barbecue of Martin City, was opened in 1974 by the eldest son Jack Fiorella and his wife Delores. Founded by family patriarch Russ Fiorella in 1957, it eventually opened four more restaurants for the Fiorella family. There were two strong contenders to pair with the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie: the Spare Ribs and the Pulled Pork Sandwich. Tippin’s Strawberry Rhubarb Pie has that sweet, classic taste reminiscent of summertime and Grandma’s cooking. The rich flavor of the ribs held its own against the bold tartness of the cherries. We loved pairing this fresh fruit pie with Jack Stack’s succulent Baby Back Ribs. ![]() We use only Montmorency cherries for these pies, in order to ensure the best quality of fruit and the brightest, most appetizing cherry red color. Tippin’s Cherry Pie is a delectable blend of tart and sweet. The flavor of the chicken provided the perfect base for both bold spice and sweet peach notes. Their tender, bone-in and perfectly cooked Barbecue Chicken stands out for its seriously delicious spicy rub. We wondered if the distinctive peach flavor might make it difficult to pair, but we found its match in Jack Stack’s equally bold Barbecue Chicken. Tippin’s Peach Pie is a brightly flavored and boldly sweet fruit pie. Paired with Jack Stack’s famous spicy barbecue sauce, the juicy brisket sandwich had a hot kick of flavor that proved a great contrast to Tippin’s Apple Pie. However, the Beef Ribs faced fierce competition from the Beef Brisket sandwich. The Beef Ribs, with their rich, earthy flavor, complemented the lightly spiced apples. We had trouble deciding between two different beloved Jack Stack dishes (so naturally we were forced to take a few extra delicious bites of each). We knew we would need something bold and spicy to provide a nice contrast for the subtle and smooth apple flavor. Tippin’s Apple Pie has a classic, all-American flavor, full of tangy, fresh apples and warm spices. Here are our favorite Tippin’s pie and Jack Stack Barbecue combinations: Apple Pie Their tasty offerings made for the perfect pairings with some of Tippin’s classic fruit pies. Founded in 1957, Jack Stack is a Kansas City barbecue legend. Like any true Kansas Citian, we also love high-quality, traditional Kansas City barbecue. So Duplicate File Finder has become a really useful tool to me. I tried using file/folder sync apps to do most of the work, but could never work how to do it. I have been putting off trying to sort through these files and folders because of the sheer amount. A large part of this collection is made up of almost all the same files in different folders- a result of changing the way I manage them. I have almost 2T of hard drive full of files I have accumulated over the years. I am not aware of any other duplicate file finding app that does this. Then File Find Remover suggests merging the two folders so that now you have the one copy of files in the one folder. It not only finds files and folders that duplicates but also looks at folders that almost the same. I have used a number of duplicate file removers over the years, and have found Duplicate File Remover is the most useful to me because of the "Merge Folder" feature. If you're looking for a padlock that'll provide a higher level of security, Home Depot suggests die-cast zinc, solid-steel bodies, and boron-steel shackles as they "provide additional cut and pry resistance."You may also want to consider investing in a lock with a shrouded shackle: a covered shackle makes it more difficult and, in some cases, impossible for a crook to use bolter cutters to circumvent a padlock's security. You might not plan on using your lock outside, but it's is nice to have the option to do so, down the road. When you're shopping for a reliable padlock, look for locks made from weather-resistant materials such as brass, laminated steel, or aluminum. But if you’re locking up simple things at a gym or an employee locker room, or sharing a locked space, combination locks work will too-you may just struggle with a combination a few times before opening. You’re going to want to opt for ones with more key pins, which means they’re more difficult to pick, and ones made of tougher metals. Typically, keyed locks are the easiest to use and are often made with a higher level of security in mind. How to Choose the Right Padlock for Youĭifferent uses call for different kinds of padlocks. Next, we had some fun with a few destructive tests. Next, these tests were applied to a bike lock and a chain to see how they fared in action. We also tried opening the locks while they were locked by pulling on them. ![]() ![]() For the combination padlocks, each lock was set with a combination and opened several times to determine how easy each padlock was to unlock and lock. I did try sticking with it for months but it wasn’t just the same with fewer friends actively playing. Playing Pet Society was the least of our priorities. Months went by and the struggles of the real world caught up to me and my college classmates. Some users were so high up Paw Points- or XP-wise that they would be happy to help out other pets get the stuff of their dreams in exchange for a reasonable number of Mystery Boxes. It went for 20,000 coins when it was still sold on the Luxury Shop and with a resale value of 6,666, and if you looked hard enough on the boards, you’d manage to find a great deal. It got to a point where I joined the Playfish forum to trade items for jukeboxes-one of the most sought-after items in the game. Does this have high resale value? Oh great, another piano. It was my cue to sit back and watch Rufus repeatedly show the same look of surprise as he opened one box after another and me, playing the part of the stage pet parent assessing the goods. I would occasionally take him on a mystery-box shopping spree-all Expensive Mystery Boxes-till my Pet Society wallet runs dry, then dump all the boxes in a room. Rufus would get special treatment, of course. If I had extra moolah, I would even send over a mystery box as a gift-heck, even virtual pets need some ayuda. But since this is Pet Society, no one would have judged you for the way you arranged your pet’s belongings or that you did not subscribe to minimalism. Socializing batteries drained? You could visit the Pond and while the time away in the fishing mini-game.ĭesigning a pet’s home in Pet Society was akin to the feeling of being a Home Buddies lurker-the kind where you admire marvelous homes and think of ways to improve your own space. When the 40th visit to a pet has worn you out, you always had that option to head to the Stadium and participate in a race, with familiar pet faces in the crowd (yes, your friends’ pets). It was merely a way to see you and your friend’s pet have some sort of interaction in the virtual world. The easiest way to earn coins was to visit your friends’ pets daily and interact with them-kiss, hug, tell a joke, dance, or even fight without consequences. ![]() If you wanted to provide the good life for your pet, you had to work for it. Just like in real life, having coins were important in Pet Society. Rufus looked like a cross between a cat and a bear, with bright yellow skin, blue eyes, and a stoic expression that took after this writer’s resting bitch face. ![]() This PPSSPP game for PC has a movie-like story and is quite engaging. You can ride a lot of vehicles, including airplanes and water boats. This is an open-world action-adventure game with a huge map. However, it gained a lot of popularity and was a huge success on the PSP.
